Update on recent negative press coverage

You may have seen a BBC Yorkshire and Lincolnshire article, which has been followed up more widely in the national press.

Prior to publication, we provided the BBC with a short written statement. Unfortunately, the BBC did not use it in full. We are continuing to monitor coverage and will keep members informed.

In the meantime, in the unlikely event that you are approached for comment by a journalist or local or regional news organisation, please do let central office know, so we can keep abreast of the situation.

Members are also reminded that Jon Boston, our public relations adviser, is available to support any members who may themselves be contacted by the press for comment.

If you are asked about the coverage by customers or other key stakeholders, it may be useful to explain that:

· Buying a holiday caravan or residential park home is a big financial commitment. It is important that customers understand exactly what they can expect for their money.

· BH&HPA provides its holiday park-owning members with model Purchase and Licence Agreements. These are designed to set out ownership terms and conditions.

· BH&HPA has also created this short video to help anyone thinking of buying a caravan to make an informed choice. Further information on buying a holiday caravan can be found here.

To further support members, our National Legal Advisers, Tozers, have written ‘Best practice in holiday caravan sales’ advice which is available here.

In the longer-term, we are looking at ways we can work together to enhance and protect the reputation of the industry.

It’s important to remember that many thousands of people buy a holiday caravan or residential park home each year, the majority of whom have a positive experience, and go on to enjoy all the holiday and lifestyle benefits that come with ownership in some of the UK’s most idyllic locations.
